Texas skydiving coach dies when parachute won’t open

WALLER, Texas – A skydiving instructor was killed after his parachute failed to open during a tandem jump in the Houston area, authorities said.

Skydive Houston said a student doing a tandem jump with an instructor was seriously injured Saturday.

Both were airlifted to a Houston hospital after Saturday’s jump in Waller, about 40 miles (65 km) northwest of Houston. The instructor later died and the student suffered serious non-life-threatening injuries, the center said.

Waller County Sheriff Troy Guidry said their parachute failed to deploy.

  A Brooklyn man claims a confused stranger loosened his front teeth during a random scuffle on a Village F-Bahn platform – and transit workers did nothing to intervene, according to a lawsuit. Bret Mahrer, 29, was minding his business on the northbound train as he pulled into the West 14th Street/6th Avenue station when he noticed a stranger “looking intently at him” and “mouthing something,” according to court records.
