David Banks to Be Principal of NYC Schools Continues to Give Good Opinion

 School Principal David Banks continues to impress with his vision to advance city public schools: accountability, innovation and outcomes.

The push for bank accountability began the day Mayor-elect Eric Adams introduced him as the next director of the city’s Department of Education: “Any agency with a $38 billion annual budget la. . . and we have 65% of black and brown children never reaching proficiency,” he said. “That must be outrageous, it’s a betrayal.”

Sure enough, the career educators at DOE’s Tweed headquarters started squirming in their seats. That’s right, because their incoming boss believes the school system is flawed – and needs fixing from the bottom up. That is, the voices to guide that change are principals and parents, not officials.

And as recent prime ministers have sought to fundamentally destroy the city’s specialty high schools, Banks would rather expand these academic gems. He told PIX 11 News that he’s willing to create new ones, with their own admissions criteria.

His approach to Gifted & Talented programs is similar. Instead of cutting programs, as Mayor Bill de Blasio has ordered, Banks will seek to expand G&T so that more students of all races can benefit – and not coincidentally, gain access to schools. elite high school.

Among the profound experiences Banks brings to his new job is his time as a school safety officer: With that in mind, he wants the NYPD to continue dealing with school safety. But he is also sensitive to students’ concerns about airport-style metal detectors deployed at schools where weapons have been seized. He has vowed to introduce newer, less annoying detection systems.

  A Brooklyn man claims a confused stranger loosened his front teeth during a random scuffle on a Village F-Bahn platform – and transit workers did nothing to intervene, according to a lawsuit. Bret Mahrer, 29, was minding his business on the northbound train as he pulled into the West 14th Street/6th Avenue station when he noticed a stranger “looking intently at him” and “mouthing something,” according to court records. North Korea fires short-range ballistic missile: South Korea

  North Korea fired a short-range ballistic missile toward the sea off the east coast of the Korean peninsula on Sunday, according to South Korea and Japan, the latest in a spate of weapons tests by the nuclear-armed state. The missile, which was launched around 11:05 a.m. from the Dongchang-ri site on the west coast, flew about 500 miles before hitting a target, according to a South Korean military statement. The Japanese Defense Ministry said the missile flew up to 30 miles. Seoul has condemned the North’s recent launches of ballistic missiles as “clear violations” of a UN Security Council resolution.
